ACCUMULATE
Accumulation and Corpus Luteum extend Phillips’ exploration of cycles and transitions—those quiet, persistent processes that shape both the body and the world around it.
Accumulation, a cast of her first child’s feet made from the sweepings of a single day in the studio, reflects the complex intersection of maternal care and artistic practice. The work captures a fleeting moment in time—both intimate and incidental—where the residue of labor becomes the material of memory. Its form underscores the emotional and physical negotiations of dual roles, where presence, absence, and routine quietly converge.
Corpus Luteum references a transitional structure within the body, one that briefly exists at a threshold—poised between potential and resolution. Its natural impermanence speaks to the precarity of change, embodying a physiological echo of cycles that unfold invisibly within us.
Both works, grounded in the language of transformation, balance the ephemeral with the enduring. Through modest materials and careful form, they reveal subtle tensions between stability and dissolution, encapsulating the emotional weight of what passes, persists, or quietly recedes. In this, they offer not just objects, but meditations on impermanence, embodied memory, and the delicate negotiations of time.
